Donation of books and cultural materials to the Ministry of Education

In celebration of Children’s Day and National Day activities, the National Arts and Culture Fund (NACF) within the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts made a donation of books and cultural materials to the Ministry of Education this morning.

This marks the second consecutive year that the Culture Institute has made such a donation, aligning with its mandate and strategic priorities to continually educate the youth of Seychelles on their rich heritage. This year, the NACF donated a total of 181 books for both Primary and Secondary Schools, both public and private.

In addition to the donation of books and cultural materials, the NACF presentated the schools with 26 locally made Moutya drums, crafted by renowned artisan Mr. Allen Camille.

This gesture underscores the Institute’s ongoing efforts to promote the Moutya, a traditional dance and music form that holds a special place in Seychellois culture. The donation commemorates the nearing third anniversary of Seychellois Moutya being inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting its global significance as a cultural treasure that must be safeguarded.

Minister for Education, Dr. Justin Valentin, who was present at the ceremony, pointed out that such events highlight the continuous collaboration between the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, and the Ministry of Education Seychelles , which is what is needed for a successful continuance of our Seychellois culture that is being passed onto our youths.

On its part, the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage, and the Arts remains committed to its mission of preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural heritage. Through initiatives such as these, the Institute ensures that future generations continue to have access to the cultural materials and knowledge that form the foundation of our Seychellois identity.
